Thought Leadership and Insight from Peter Hannaford, Founder and CEO, Datacenter People

For this edition of Edge Talks, we spoke to Peter Hannaford, Founder and CEO, Datacenter People.

1. We have heard the term Edge Computing often used. But what exactly is it?

You’ll hear several definitions. Some would describe it as the edge of the network. Personally, I prefer the more generic description which is effectively bringing the datacenter (storage, connectivity, processing etc) closer to where the data is generated, stored and used.

2. How will edge computing change the IT industry?

Edge isn’t the cause of the change. Edge (or whatever we want to call it) is the natural result of the ongoing digital transformation of the planet – where local cloud, decentralised processing power, mobile computing and IOT are driving the demand.

3. How do you see the advent of edge data centres impacting hosting infrastructure?

a. Improved latency
b. More redundancy/ guaranteed availability
c. More widespread availability of high-speed connections

4. How do you think the Edge will impact the everyday citizen?

We rely so much on the internet today – it impacts on almost every aspect of our lives that we now can’t live without it. But we need always-on, faster and more reliable access. That’s what Edge will provide

Peter Hannaford and the Datacenter People Team will be at Edge Asia in Singapore on 11 April. Meet them there!
